Safety first: Our trusted UK-built whirlpool baths surpass British and European Standards

One of the questions we often get asked is, “Are whirlpool baths safe?”

Our answer: “Yes, with all our whirlpool baths, safety is paramount.”

How can we guarantee this? Through not only complying with British and European Standards, but by exceeding them. One of our team members was even on the committee that set the Standards initially, inventing the suction break, and being the first manufacturer to use them (back in the 1980s!)

Having a suction break or cut out function on a whirlpool bath or hot tub prevents both body and hair entrapment. Our baths include a flush fitted child safety system that automatically cuts out.

As you may have spotted in the news recently, failure to mitigate entrapment can sadly lead to tragic events.

All our baths are manufactured in the UK using premium materials and are thoroughly tested to make sure they surpass the British and European Standards.

How are whirlpool baths tested?

• The test comprises a mass of 50g of natural human hair being attached to a wooden rod.
• The hair is saturated for at least 2 minutes in the bath water.
• The free end of the hair is placed over the suction opening and the appliance operated while supplied at rated voltage.
• The hair is moved from side to side for up to 2.5 minutes in an attempt to get it sucked completely into the opening.
• The rod is pulled in order to withdraw the hair from the water.
• This test is carried out five times. If the bath has more than one suction opening, they are tested in turn.

What suction system do we use?

Both the Markon c-lenda patented system and MultiZone SafeFlo suctions we use in our baths feature vacuum break technology for body entrapment protection exceeding Standards.

The SafeFlo suction fitting on the MultiZone Hydrotherapy system has been tested at 380 ltrs/m. Most other suction fittings are rated at 250 ltrs/m, so we’ve gone a step further than the average whirlpool supplier.

Are whirlpool baths safe for everyone to use?

Yes, people of all ages can enjoy a whirlpool bath. However, we recommend that you never leave children unattended in a bath, regardless of whether it is a whirlpool one or not.

Pregnant women and the elderly should always seek medical advice before using any whirlpool bath or spa system.
