All our whirlpool baths are British Standards compliant
Whether you’re a homeowner, or a commercial interior designer, you’ll want to know that when you buy or specify a whirlpool bath, it’s not only stylish, but safe too.
Adhering to BS EN 60335-2-60 – a set of guidance relating to the safety of electric whirlpool baths, and their suitability for indoor use – all of our whirlpool baths are British Standards compliant.
We don’t just meet the Standards either. We exceed them. Across the board. Through ensuring your bath is crafted with high-quality fixtures and fittings that will stand the test of time.
What does this mean to you? Read on to find out more…
Q: Can hair get trapped in the jets of a whirlpool bath?
A: Not with our whirlpool baths.
The above British Standards segment includes a clause that states: whirlpool baths shall be constructed so that hair cannot be drawn into apertures due to water suction if this could result in a hazard.
Compliance is checked by a test whereby the bath is filled for normal operation. A mass of 50 g of medium or fine natural human hair is attached to a wooden rod, 25 mm in diameter and 300 mm in length, the free length of the hair being 400 mm. The hair is saturated for at least 2 minutes in the bath water.
The free end of the hair is then placed over the suction opening and the appliance is operated. The hair is moved from side to side for up to 2.5 minutes in an attempt to get it sucked completely into the opening. And this test is carried out five times.
When purchasing a bath from us at Whirlpool Bath & Spa Co, the SafeFlo suction fitting on our MultiZone Hydrotherapy system has been tested to meet this standard and is rated at 380 ltrs/m, while most other suction fittings are rated at 250 ltrs/m.
Both c-Lenda and MultiZone SafeFlo suctions feature vacuum break technology for body entrapment protection – again, exceeding the required standards.
Q: Are whirlpool baths hygienic?
A: Yes. Ours are.
In line with British Standards, whirlpool baths must be constructed so that the quantity of water that remains in the appliance after emptying the bath, and that is recirculated the next time the bath is used, doesn’t exceed 0.5 l or 0.2 % of the capacity of the bath, whichever is less.
This, in addition to following our recommended cleaning guidelines keeping bio-film at bay, results in our whirlpool baths offering users a luxury experience every time, for a long period of time.
Q: Do whirlpool baths leak?
A: No. Not when purchased from Whirlpool Bath & Spa Co.
Our c-Lenda manual controls pass the required test as part of BS EN 60335-2-60 – perfectly functioning – and never leaking – even when submerged under water.
We use only the best quality products, which we’ve found to be c-Lenda – born out of 20 years of innovation. Combined with Carron bathtubs. And it’s this combination, we believe, that not only meets the Standards you’d expect as a customer, but far surpasses them.
